Walnuts on My Windshield

June 10, 2004

Guess who's coming to dinner tonight? The Master's Commission students - all 15 of them! I have been prepping food all day, and Andrew says he thinks they will like my Creamy Cheese Potatoes. I hope so. Jessica also made the carrot cake that they requested. Should be fun and yummy.

Scott got his cast off on Tuesday, after only two weeks! The orthopaedist reminded him that his thumb is still broken. He is now going for therapy three times a week for a month. The therapist custom-made a plastic, removeable splint for it. Scott says it looks like it's made out of PVC pipe. It's functional, but in my opinion, not nearly as classy as the purple cast. He takes it off five times a day to do some special exercises. So far, so good.

Jessica is getting over a nasty cold that Andrew brought home from somewhere. She'll be going to Camp Lookout on Monday for four nights. I told her that I don't know what we'll do with all those suppper dishes while she's gone. So far, no one has volunteered to do her supper clean up, or her sheets and towels laundry; not to mention the collecting of some 50 Springfield library books on Tuesday. I have a feeling this could be a busy week for Mom.

The grass is getting brown; we really need rain. That reminds me that I MUST water the garden in the morning. I have picked a total of two - that's right: one, two - delicious grape tomatoes so far. It looks like all the veggies (that's tomatoes and peppers) will be having good harvests. I bought some nifty poles at Lowe's, because the tomato plants were outgrowing their cages. I'm wondering now if I should have bought longer poles.

Thought for the day, by David Lloyd George: "Don't be afraid to take a big step if one is indicated. You can't cross a chasm in two small jumps."
